We built the 118mm halogen lamp for one simple reason: to give you a ton of heat where space is at a premium. Lower voltage is great for short runs that need high current, but then you have to pay a little more attention to contact resistance and wire sizing. And wattage? We don’t just pick a number. We match the filament to the exact temperature and radiant power you need. More wattage means faster warm-up and a hotter peak output, sure, but it also means your surrounding equipment needs to be ready for the heat.
What’s Inside: The Tough Stuff
The body is quartz, not regular glass. Why? Because quartz can handle the shock of rapid on-off cycling and stays rock-solid at the insane temperatures needed for that intense infrared output. Inside, the halogen cycle does its magic, keeping the bulb clear by moving tungsten back to the filament. The payoff? Consistent output over time. Less blackening. That’s the kind of reliability you need when you’re running day after day. Most of these lamps use an R7s connector—a double-ended linear fitting that makes for solid contact and easy mounting. It’s a true drop-in replacement. For other applications, like a Sk15, you get a secure mechanical lock that holds steady against vibration and thermal cycling, so you get fewer failures out in the field.

This is the go-to when you need heat, fast, and with precision in a compact footprint. You’ll see it in PET preform heating, plastic welding and sealing, adhesive curing, coating drying, and component reflow in tight stations. The radiant heat hits the part directly, so you’re not wasting energy heating the whole machine enclosure. But here’s the thing: that high heat density means the surrounding parts feel the warmth, too. You’ve got to plan for it. Design your reflector, airflow, and shielding with that in mind. Otherwise, the lamp and nearby components will run hotter than you want. When you’re replacing an existing unit, just match the length, voltage, wattage, and base type. That’s how you keep the thermal profile consistent and the installation simple.
