Switching over to targeted infrared (IR) lamps changes the whole vibe of the process. The secret is how the heat actually moves. Those standard heaters you’re probably using rely on convection. They have to heat the air, and then the air heats the wood. It’s slow. IR lamps are different. They shoot radiant energy straight into the material. If you go with lamps that have higher wattage density, your warm-up time drops from hours to just a few minutes. No more idling for half the morning while your power bill spikes. It just works. What’s under the hood? We use quartz glass tubes with halogen filaments. Why? Because they react fast. We’ve designed these to be drop-in replacements for those clunky Weinig heating blocks, so you aren’t rebuilding your whole machine. Shortwave hits the surface hard and fast. But if you’re working with thick veneers, you’ll want medium-wave. It sinks deeper into the grain, which means you can dry the wood without scorching the surface. A quick word of caution. Here’s the thing: these high-wattage lamps put out a ton of heat. A lot. You can’t just cram them into a tight space and hope for the best. You need to make sure your ventilation and cooling can handle the load. If there’s no airflow, you’re asking for burnt-out sockets or fried electronic controllers. And please, don’t cheap out on the wiring. Use heat-resistant cables and reinforced connectors. These parts expand and shrink as they heat up and cool down, and cheap wires just won’t hold up.
