
Getting Your Sidel Matrix Heating Just Right
When you’re trying to match the heat curve of an OEM Sidel Matrix heater, “close enough” doesn’t cut it. If it’s off by a hair, you’re in trouble. You need a perfect match—everything from the electrical load to the way the light hits the plastic. That’s why we built our infrared modules to be true drop-in replacements. You shouldn’t have to spend your weekend rewriting heating profiles just because you changed a part.
The Nitty-Gritty of the Match
Here’s the thing: to get that original heating curve, we obsess over the voltage and wattage. If the original tube pulls a certain amount of current, ours does too. Why? Because any little slip-up changes the heat flux. A tiny mismatch in wattage is the difference between a perfect bottle and one with cold spots or burnt patches. We even double-check the length and diameter of the quartz envelope. We want that infrared radiation hitting the PET wall at the exact angle Sidel intended. No guesswork.
It’s All in the Quartz
We use high-purity quartz because these things take a beating with rapid heating and cooling. But the real magic is in the coating. By tweaking the emissivity, we control whether the energy comes out as short-wave or medium-wave IR. This means the heat actually sinks into the preform wall instead of just scorching the outside. And since we use standard R7s or Sk15 connectors, you can just plug them in. No hacking into your wiring loom or praying that the cables fit.
A Quick Warning on Heat Density
High-wattage tubes are great because they let you run fast cycle times. But they put a lot of pressure on your oven’s ventilation. If your cooling blowers are clogged or just worn out, these high-output lamps will hike up the ambient temperature inside the oven. That’s when you start seeing preforms deform. Keep your airflow clean. It’s the only way to actually get the performance you’re paying for.
